"I have been actively involved in photography for my entire life. Over the past few years, my work has centered on a theme of imprisonments-for reasons of crime, bad luck or nature. I have extensively photographed incarcerated youth, functionally disabled citizens, and the institutionalized developmentally disabled. Because of my interest in the individuals that compose larger matrixes, this work is heavily grounded in portraiture. More recently, I seem to have changed direction, and am currently photographing western landscapes. I am currently the coordinator of photography at the Evergreen State College in Olympia."

"I was born in California and raised in Idaho before eventually settling here. I came here in response to a job opening that asked for experience in "new photography," which seemed very cool. It turned out to be a typo. They wanted experience in news photography. I faked it and got the job. That was 22 years ago, and I'm still here. Washington is home, and I'm very happy here, with my wife and two year old daughter. But I wish the sun came out more often."
