“My work in Alaska is based largely within the restrictions of Alaska’s limited road system. Although my photography is firmly rooted in Alaska as place, I shy away from Alaska as idol. My work deals with the overlapping of man and nature and how we react to, and live with, our own definitions of progress. One can easily be overwhelmed by beauty here, but making beautiful pictures of beautiful things alone, I believe, brings little to the discussion of this misunderstood, and largely unrealized landscape.”

“Making photographs, for me, is a process of understanding, and interacting with my environment; it’s my excuse for being there.”
