“I moved to Virginia in the summer of 2006 to intern at a newspaper in the southwest part of the state. It was culture shock. I had grown up in the suburbs of Kansas City and had never spent anytime in the South. It took a few months to get used to seeing mountains and hearing the southern drawls but after two years Virginia feels like home.”
